Each album icon opens to the lyrics of all the original songs appearing on that album.
Here are a few introductory notes.
* Except for two cuts on the first album and two cuts on Oblivion Seekers Live, all
the originals were written in the 1990s. Each new album was recorded when there were
enough songs to fill it, so the songs were written in approximately the sequence they
were released.
* Most of the material was written to be played live by a functional band, although
each album contains at least one exception, usually something written at the last minute
to bulk up the album.
* I have a deep and abiding respect for songs built on nothing but a single repetitive
chord pattern, like Louie Louie or Hey Joe. Witness songs like Forever, Prison Blue,
Guns Junk and Voodoo, Stand Up, End of the Line and Witness.
* A few songs were written as intentional tributes to the work of earlier musicians.
All songs containing musical elements which were consciously re-contextualized have been
labeled as "Music inspired by ____." Lyrics influenced by another specific work are
noted as having a "Theme suggested by ____."
(Do I need the advice of counsel here?)
* Art ought to imitate life, not art, that’s what I say. Song lyrics should reflect
direct personal experience, or at least some corner of reality somewhere that means
something to the writer. I’m talking about lyrics, not music. When music imitates music,
we call that creativity.
