Item Description: Ten years ago, a publisher asked me to write several chapters for a proposed history of postcard photographers. At the time, I spent a considerable amount of time researching Markham. The book was never published, and I am now offering this biography and checklist, which I printed myself. The style of writing and research is similar to my last book, the biography of Benjamin Gifford titled "Oregon Then & Now" by Westcliffe publishers.

The biography begins with his introduction to photography, his work as an itinerant photographer in logging camps, employment and partnership in a wholesale photograpers supply, move to The Dalles and establishment of his studio there, wholesale production of postcards, his sale of The Dalles studio and move to Portland, and his later career as photographer. Information sources included interviews with people who knew him, newspaper microfilms from Portland and The Dalles, directory searches, and a personal examination of hundreds of his post cards, original negatives, and other photographs. I inventoried hundreds of Markham post cards owned by regional post card collectors.

The cover and color plates were printed on an Epson archival Ultrachrome printer. They are permanent, the inks are pigment rather than dye, and are waterproof and will not smudge or fade. The text is printed on document grade, acid free paper on a lazer printer. Avery binding. Buyer satisfaction guaranteed.
