1929: “George W. Davies, 73, founder of the Davies photograph studio, died yesterday at his home. 879 Hamblet avenue. Funeral services will be announced later by Finley & Son.
Mr. Davies was born in San Francisco, November 10, 1855, and came to Portland 62 years ago. He became known as one of Portland’s finest photographers.
Mr. Davies is survived by his widow, Annie; his son, Louis G. Davies, New York city; a sister, Mrs. M. Summerfield, Portland; a stepdaughter, Miss Isabelle Defries. Portland, and two stepsons, Clarence Defries, Portland, and E. A. Defries, New Orleans.” Oregonian, 4 Feb 1929, pg.13, col. 3.
1950: ISABELLE F. DEFRIES. Isabelle F. Defries. late of 1410 N. E. Weidler street, died at a Portland hospital Saturday.
Miss Defries was born in Boston November 1. 1872, and
came to Portland with the family in 1879. She attended Park grade and Portland high schools. She was a life member of the Council of Jewish Women and also a member of Hadassah.
Funeral services will be Tues day at 2:30 p. m. in the J. P’. Finley & Son chapel. Vault entombment will follow at Portland Memorial.
Two brothers survive. Clarence A. Defries, Portland. and Edward A. Defries. of Miami, Fla.”
