James Henry Bratt ( -1915) (Astoria)
He was a stereo photographer from Akron, New York. He opened a San Francisco gallery in 1886 which lasted until 1893, when he moved to Astoria. He was listed by the 1893 Astoria directory as a photographer at 120 Olney St. On January 1, 1895, The Oregonian published some of his Astoria scenics and remarked “J. H. Bratt, who has kindly furnished the photos for illustrating Astoria, is located at 583 Commercial street, in that city. His portrait work is finely executed and universally admired. His marine and view work is also much admired, and pronounced by all as being a most excellent production in the art of photography. Mr. Bratt was formerly located in San Francisco. He has been at Astoria only a little over one year, but during this short period he has gained a reputation achieved only by a limited number in his profession.”
By 1899, Bratt was settled in San Rafael, CA working as a photographer-partner in the firm Loriallard & Bratt. He lost everything in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire. He died in 1915.
