“Herbert A. Hale, Photographer, Portland, Oregon.” rubber stamp on back of mount, 6 1/2 x 8 1/2″ contact print of home view. The style is 1890’s and indicates Hale was an itinerant photographer.

1935: “HERBERT A. HALE. Funeral services were held at the Portland Crematorium June 10 for Herbert A. Hale, 1005 Southeast 14th avenue, who died June 8. He was 73. Mr. Hale came to Portland Christmas eve, 1891, and had lived here since. He was a commercial photographer for many years, but for the past several years had been managing his apartment house. He leaves his widow, Grace S. Hale; two sons, Raymond H., The Dalles, and Major Howard A. Hale, United States Army; two brothers, John P. and Mark E.
